Alright so- here are the basics. I'm a college student, currently running about 70 miles a week with one or two tempos and a long run that's usually a little under 2 hours. I've got about 6 months to go before track season ramps up, and not running XC means I'll be able to use all of that time to train for the best possible 1500 during track. I've read a lot about Lydiard's training philosophy, but I haven't seen many discussions about training specific to middle distance.
My most pressing issues for the moment are;
1. Mileage. There seems to be a ridiculous amount of discussion already, but I'm just looking for people's experience. What is a reasonable amount of mileage to run during my training? Should I push to 100+ mpw or is 70-80 good enough?
2. Workouts. What types of workouts have you guys done during base training that helped you in the 1500?
And as a side note, I've also wondered about doubles. Workout, then easy run? Workout, then workout? Easy, then easy? What have your experiences been there?
Have fun discussing, hoping for some new ideas and listening to your experiences!
