I love Koike’s style, he hits it right from the gun and never lets up. Sort of like Su, only Su has more lift in vmax and maintenance. Koike needs to relax more at speed, I bet his 200 is not as good as his 100. He looks like he does a lot of sled training, which would be great.
I think that he has eclipsed Kiryu because Kiryu seems to have waffled a bit.
This is more great news for the JPN relay.
Clean? Unknown. A JPN distance woman tested positive last year. IDK what his progression is like, but this time is right in there with the best in history in JPN, guys like Ito.
Very nicely done, over 2 rounds. I love this guy!
But boy, this race was all about Hughes shutting it down in the semi.
Japan has some legit sprinters, however Koike has an unusual progression for a japanese sprinter, who tend to be very fast very young and improve by small steps.
Unlike his countrymen who were hovering around 10"00 before breaking 10" (Kiryu, Yamagata, Sani Brown), Koike was, before 2018, a very averge sprinter for their standards with a basic PB of 10"35, and was stagnating , then last year he improved to 10"17, then this year he cracked 10".
I don't have doubt habout japanese sprinters, but had this guy been of any other nationality, he would raise red flags (the fact that they are hosting the Olympics next year, might instill doubts though)
