Never going to happen. The owners of the site are adamantly against it. They think that it won't allow "names" to share their gossip anonymously. Pretty bad reasoning.
I'm appalled that you cannot spell appalled.
Learn to spell if you want to spew your whining poop on LRC.
Thank you.
People have no tact.
It's sick and disgusting some of the things you see on this website.
People think it's acceptable to say absolutely anything.
On this site, they are right.
As far as ''names'', if they have something to say, why not just say it?
Why be afraid to say what you have to say?
I am just sickened by some of the things on here.
I am fairly open minded and can tolerate a variety of topics.
I also have my own threshold of what I don't want to read and this site seems to cross it.

Well, I enjoy the positive side of the site and will continue to voice my concerns.
Nice try though
totally agree.
I wasn't going to say anything, don't want to sound like a whiners.....but these running threads keep popping up and ruining this site.
they are few but they stick out like sore thumb and ruin the experience for most.
report them.
ban the runners.

It only takes about 5 minutes to register a username and it doesnt even require a valid email.
With the current registration process, it would probably slow down people trolling on a whim slightly, and present zero obstacle to anybody wanting to be a whistleblower.
The other concern was the random newbie coming for the first time and asking for advice. Likewise, I doubt many legitimate posters would be deterred.
The only thing we would lose would be the witty usernames. How much we would gain in terms of removing racism, bullying, etc is probably not a lot, but some.
Requiring a valid email address likely would be more of a barrier. But if a whistleblower wanted to come here and post, it would only take a few extra minutes to create a burner email to register with. Now you're looking at 10 minutes to register. Likely any serious whistleblowers wont be deterred.
And let's be real: legitimate whistleblowers are mostly going to the press, or wada, orUSATF, depending what they're blowing the whistle on.

Threads where a bunch of mediocre men talk about high school girls' bodies/weights, where the same men talk about young women's professional careers (see the recent grayson thread)....and on and on. These threads should not exist here. I will eventually leave LR for this reason. The idiots need to be banned. I could name a few registered handles right now but I'll wait on it. 'jos, you need to step it up. I agree 100% with OP. Stop allowing stupid political posts, stop allowing morans to spew their idiocy unchecked. Is this a running site or a site for idiots to comment about AOC? Really, 'jos, step up.
Summary of the thread:
SJWs crying over BS.
Nothing new under the sun.
True. Take, for instance, this thread.

You're strangely obsessed with "SJWs." This is a silly right-wing canard.
Seek help immediately. Your wife and children are in danger (from you). Really, you're not well, man. Step away from the large Ford truck holding some of your many guns. Turn Fox News off.
There is a real world out there. You know know nothing of it. Go there. Talk to actual people. Be reborn. I know you can do it.

Dimwit.
The thread was started because of some of the nonsense on the board.
You're ok with a message board full of intolerable BS?
What do you stand for?
I stand for the truth, for which many consider blasphemy in today's society. Look at that thread someone bumped from a few years ago, someone accused the founder of this site of race baiting for stating a statistical fact. Lunacy is PC. And to stand against such nonsense is politically incorrect.
Truth is great.
I personally don't have an issue with the Rojo thread you are referring to.
It's his opinion, it's his website and he's right.
I have an issue with anonymous users making lewd remarks about women.
I would guess these are usually guys under 30.
Those users need to smarten up but the site doesn't deter that kind of behavior.
It only allows users to report posts.
Better than nothing, but, a registered handle is still something that would be beneficial, I believe.
If everyone had to send in a scan of their driver's license, LRC would know exactly who is posting here.
You can bet they would probably not say such things if their identity were more easily revealed.
I don't care for lewd comments in general and they seem to be common place on this board.

In other words, it is based on irrational fear. Nothing could be more apropos. This board is nothing but a daily flaunting of fear.
The lack of mandatory user names makes it a basically meaningless compilation. The track threads are worthwhile. Otherwise it is one low class thread after another, and getting worse all the time.
People who know they would be banned elsewhere discover that they can hide out here under ever changing temporary names and spew any type of racist and defamatory crap imaginable, with zero consequence.
That's why opinion of this board is so low elsewhere. I have actually been chastised via private message on other sites when posters notice that I am posting here also.
So senseless. The overall level of discourse would instantly rise by at least 25% if user names were mandatory, and the standard methods undertaken to remove the deplorables.

I approve of this message. Always have. Always will.
What's wrong with people speaking openly, offensively, and even stupidly? Speech shouldn't be put down, no matter the content, as the alternative is far more dangerous.
How in the EFF did you troll idiots begin yet ANOTHER moderation thread here? How in the EFF is it still here?
Whiny losers who are too think skinned to deal with real free speech on LRC, just go the eff away.
