OK, this doesn't work for the most elite of the elite, as obviously Kipchoge isn't running a 2:01 1k, but for most humans, this would be a pretty solid equivalent, no?

No. Completely different energy systems and muscle fibers.
Fastest km I have ever ran is around 3:10.
My marathon PB is 2:46.

Of course, but there's a fitness correlation for most people who aren't pros.
I can tell you based on my mile and marathon PRs that my 1k/marathon time would likely be within a second or two of each other.

What's your mile PR? 5:20? That's wild if you've run a 2:46
Is this your version of Yasso 880's?
lol waiting for big badd Makh Daddy to drop that 2:13 marathon.

Maybe if he trained to his potential in the 'thon, that's what it would be...

Also, did you race that 1k? Or was it just part of a 15:54 5k run in 3:10/3:11/3:11/3:11/3:11?
not close for me, I can't break 3:00 for the half but run low 2:50's

Can't break 3 for the HALF?! What are you even talking about
He means HALF MILE or 800

OK but that's outrageous. No one who can run a 2:50s marathon can't break 3:00 in an 800.
So if I can run a three minute kilometer time trial, I can run a three minute marathon? Cool!

not for a 20mpw hobbythonner
It's about 10-12 seconds off. A 2:40 1000 is about like a 2:25-2:30 marathon.

Not close for me either. In my youth, I could run 2:43 for the marathon but based on my best mile times I could not have approached 3 minutes for 1k.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
