My daughter is a rising junior. She is pretty good at many things, but despite my protests, she wants to dedicate her life to art. I think "fine, there are lots of great colleges where she can major in art" and maybe she can also pick up a useful 2nd major or a minor (she has also been learning the Russian language which is a little unusual). However, now all I hear about is "RISD" which is the Rhode Island School of Design. She says it is "like the Harvard of art schools." Her sole purpose in life now seems about getting her admissions portfolio ready for RISD.
Please help. Anyone out there familiar with RISD? Is it the Harvard of art schools? Would she be better off majoring in art at another school where she has previously shown interest, such as Syracuse? I've gone the webpages, and she would definitely have more flexibility and choices of majors at Syracuse (or some other similar school).
