I'm preparing for the M50 and 800m / 1500m next year. 5x200m uphill with 8% gradient today. A tool tells me that it corresponds to 280m flat. I ran in training shoes, the ground is sandy and slippery. So let's pretend it's 5x280m.
Results: 5x280 / 4min rest in 38s; 39s; 39s; 39/40s; 40s
Is it realistic to think about 800m in sub 2:10? I will go to a track as soon as possible but I prefer to train in the forest.
If you are strong (but not very fast), then you may run nearly as fast uphill as you do flat, so not a good predictor.
Instead: Go to a track, and if you so much hate it:
Measure up 800 meters and run it all out. That is your baseline.
Or. Measure 400 meters. If you run that in less than 60 seconds you may run 2:10.
It also depends on a mix of elements like aerobic conditioning, raw speed, speed endurance and ability to clear lactate.
