Mizuki Noguchi is hoping to break the Japanese record of 2:19:41 at Berlin. Any comment on her chances? Jason, you were right on the money the last time with Yoko Shibui at Berlin. Hoping you can tell us a little about Mizuki.

She doesn't seem to be in great form this year, after losing to Ndereba in a half - marathon. I think she could break 2:20 in the future though.
I am in St. Moritz and I ran with her this morning.
She arrived St. Moritz last night. She's in fine shape and she will run a new Asian record at Berlin. I see her going about 2:19:10.

HM form and marathon form are different. Her weaker HM may in fact indicate that she is due to peak at Berlin. Also consider Tergat's great HM at Lisbon and his performance at London soon after.
Keep in mind that Naoko Takahashi also ran about 1:09 at the Sapporo half in 2000, 3 months before her Olympic victory.
Mizuki did about 10 days at high altitude in Kunming before Sapporo, returning to Japan 3 weeks before the half marathon.
This time she is probably going to stay in St. Moritz all the way to Sept. 15, 10 days before Berlin. She will be ready. There will probably be 3 top Japanese women at Berlin this year.

Thanks. I hope you're right. Enjoy your time in St. Moritz. I wish I could run with her.
Jason,
What is the altitude at St Moritz? Is the running on roads or trails mainly?
Altitude here is about 6000 feet.
There is a nice all-weather track that is open for public-use 24 hours a day.
Every kind of running surface is available here, from the track to roads, flat trails, hilly trails, everything.
Hiromi and Takemi Ominami are here as well.
