Why the hate on Kara wrote:
https://www.runnersworld.com/news/a25380531/kara-goucher-new-marathon-goals/She's not as fast as she used to be but seems to be a decent person (not biaotchy or stupid or mean). And she has what looks like a good book out I may get.
I'm trying to get my g/f into running and she's inspired by female runners like Joanie, Jordan, Kara, Allie, etc. And especially Gwen (due to her tris and her vids about Stanley).
Three reasons really: 1) She is accusing her former group of cheating, yet conveniently leaves out the fact that many of her best performances were with that group. 2) She whines. 3) She dramatizes things to get attention for non-running related reasons.
1) As the poster above me said, Kara and Adam both joined NOP and had an interesting surge in their performance. She finished college in 2001, was basically in Limbo for a few years with no notable achievements, joined NOP in 2004, and started throwing down some of the best performances of her career.
Fast forward to 2011, she leaves NOP, and a few years later, she's accusing them of doping, while maintaining her own innocence (despite her very significant improvements while with the group). It doesn't help that absolutely nothing of note has actually come from this multi-year investigation.
2) She whines A LOT.
No doubt, there are indeed a lot of misogynistic individuals on this website, but contrary to popular belief, they don't actually go about hating all women in running. Many female athletes are very well-liked on these boards. For example, Jordan Hasay, Laura Muir, Tirunesh/Genzebe Dibaba, Vivian Cheruiyot, etc. In general, any dislike towards these women generally come with their association with questionable individuals (Salazar for Hasay, Aden for the Dibabas, etc.).
One thing that all the well-liked women have in common is that they go out, and they run. You rarely hear whining coming from them. Sure, they'll complain sometimes, but not like Kara Goucher. Goucher whines to the point that it's actually irritating for many people.
3) The attention she gets is disproportionate relative to her performance, and largely for non-running related reasons.
Of the women mentioned before, they are expected to perform well, typically perform well, and when failing to perform well, will make a few comments about being disappointed and get back to improving themselves. Many top-tier female runners have had kids, and you hear very little about it. What you hear about them is their running.
Kara Goucher is the opposite. She has not performed particularly well in many years (her best performances really, were in her Nike days), but draws attention to other aspects of her, such as the fact that she is a Mom. She also frequently cries and dramatizes losses. When she does not perform well, she makes it sound like her world is ending in her interviews. She basically cries until the attention is more focused on her than it is on the actual top performers.
This board is, in addition to being filled with misogynists, filled with running fans. What running fan wants to see attention taken away from a top performer and focused on a runner who was not even in the mix to win?
