When i moved here to the old american western city of san antonio, I noticed that the movie theaters have assigned seats. Coming from Oklahoma, I had never seen that before.
When did this begin in america?
I dont think I support it. I would rather have first come first serve basis seating.
It's a lil too liberal for me.
I like it. Even if you are late, you know exactly where to go. No more standing in the front of the theatre squinting for open spots in the dark.
Reserving the seats is first come, first served, but now you don't have to wait in a line for 2 hours to get a good seat to see a popular movie. I support.

I don’t know where I want to sit until I physically enter the theater. I want to sit away from everyone, towards the back row and I’m the center of the row. I avoid teens, families, sketchy looking looking people, obese people, and people with packaged candies. The social engineers at the movie theater have robbed me of the ability to choose to insulate myself from these goons.
I fully support assigned seating. But then, I haven't been in a movie theater in decades. If I actually watched movies in theaters and was personally effected by this, then I think I would hate assigned seating. But as things stand, I'm all for it.
I wish they had it when I was a kid. My mom could never get out the door in time to get to the theater in enough time to get good seats. We would always be running across the parking lot and half the time would miss the show when something popular sold out.
Now, I really only go to the movie theater with my kids and that is usually at 1 pm on a Sunday when it is pretty empty. So, it is kind of a nuisance to have to feel like I have to get tickets online in order to walk into an empty theater. And then my kids always ask if they can sit in a different section.

It's people like you that are the problem. How hard is it to get to the theater on time? Are you the tall guy who gets there after the movie has started and then sits down in front of a short person and blocks their view? By then it may be too late to move because all the seats are taken. (If there are two or three of us who want to sit together.) I don't think anyone who arrives after the movie has started should be allowed in. You probably talk during the movie also. It's because of inconsiderate people like you that I seldom go to the movies. I use to go every week.

only an idiot would pay someone to assign them a seat, to potentially sit next to some mongoloid who will undoubtedly ruin the experience via noise, body odor, etc. ill just wait til i can stream it
I guess it makes sense from an efficiency standpoint. When people pick their own seats, they almost always put one empty seat between their own party and the next group of people. The result is that it can be impossible to find two seats together once the theater is 2/3 full. By assigning seats, you can put groups together in a way that allows you to fill the theater to capacity without splitting groups up.

Considering they play about 30 minutes of previews for every movie now, I always show up "late". And with stadium seating and recliner seats, the "tall guy" isn't a problem anymore.
The biggest problem at theaters nowadays are people fvcking around with their phones. Same for concerts. No one wants to see your sh!tty recording of a live show. Put your phone down and enjoy.

For me, if a movie is worth watching, it's worth paying for.
If you're walking in after the theater has gone dark you're too late. I hope you don't make it a habit because it's interrupting everyone else who wasn't too late.

Are you talking about the reserved seating where you basically have your own reclining La-Z-boy? Because if so, I love them. Otherwise I don't know what you're talking about.
I think it makes it less likely for a horde of annoying high school kids to buy tickets and crowd around each other and be loud all movie if they have to coordinate buying assigned tickets and seating in advance.
