How did they hold up? I have a pair that I've been babying. With the 4%ers blowing apart before 100 miles I was curious how the Carbon X would take a beating considering Hoka's have always treated me well with longevity.
great question!
I have the VF4% as well, and I have run maybe 20 miles in them. Saving them for road races.
I have been using these as my every day trainer and honestly, they're doing great. I tend to wear out the inside heel quickly because I'm an inelegant hobby jogger and the Carbon X are hanging in there well. I expect I'll be able to get 350-400 miles out of them. If I were you I'd let it rip.
Proof that you have really run 220 miles in these shoes?
How do we know you aren't lying?
Any moran could be like "I've run X miles in X shoes. AMA"
This thread is useless without pics (of the shoes)
I put 50 miles on them and sent them back to hoka. Didn’t like anything about them. Thought upper didn’t hug well and created hot spots. Shoe is very very stiff and if you heel strike even a little these make running feel hard. I just couldn’t warm up to these shoes...wife tried them to, more forefoot but again nothing special and not worth the price.
Tried fast and long runs and just kept thinking for ththe price, I would rather use the fuel cell rebels or beacons or energy’s.

The stiffness is what you're paying for. Carbon fiber ain't exactly flexible. I could tell instantly putting them on that they were fast shoes, even a heel striker like myself. The forward angle feels a lot different than most Hokas, but I liked it. Your loss man! Worth every penny in my book.
Perhaps...but the stiffness is very different than the Nike carbon shoes. The carbon plate propels the nike foam, while it turns the Hokas into Rocker shoes...like this shoe and the carbon rocket. I guess I dont have the rocker stride this shoe needs. Ran same 5 mile course in vaporflys, fuel cell rebels and the carbon x...the carbon just felt like I had to push more for the same pace.
I also kept feeling the plate split in the forefoot toe area or at least the stiffness. Coming from Nikes, you may be disappointing.
However...silver lining wise I have re-warmed up to Hokas and may try the Rincon shoe
Really? You didn't like them? They're so fast. And I think they're just as comfortable, if not more, than Tracers. I have ~120 miles on mine (based on Strava logging), and they're still super fresh. Honestly, I'd race in these over just about anything on the market. Admittedly, I haven't tried the Nike 4%s.
that's a fair request for a photo:

I agree they're stiffer than most trainers. And I really don't like that the only color is white, as the photo shows - it gets gross basically day 1.
In general though, I'm a fan. I may try the rockets next. Keep the questions coming.
I'm really looking forward to hearing about Carbon X vs Clifton 6 vs Rincon as a daily trainer once people have had a chance to spend a good amount of time with all 3.
Kudos Aaron on the pic.
They look like they've got some miles on them. Surprisingly the sole actually looks pretty good. Any major degradation of the tread (although to be fair, there probably wasn't much to begin with)? How about degradation of the cushioning? Fabric break down?
You nailed it - there's virtually no tread to begin with. It's hard to quantify but I'd say I've lost maybe 20% of that small amount.
In other shoes, I often blow through the fabric on the outside towards the bottom of my little toe - but these may have the largest toe box of any running shoe I've ever owned. So I don't see any issue developing there.
The fabric integrity in general seems great - no issues yet.
One thing I should mention is that the back of the shoe (that covers your lower achilles) isn't stiff at all. I use the pull on the back of the shoe to put them on every time - so I'm pretty sure that's gonna rip at some point. But so far, so good...
and ditto with the cushioning - some degradation but seems perfectly in line with what I'd expect. These definitely do not have as much cushioning as the Claytons which I've had in the past, and other Hokas in general. I would say they're more similar to the Cavus.
Lunn doesn't make the final and other Americans are not even competive in their respective events.
Where can we find you on Strava?
All I can say is "I'm sorry." No one should have to run 220 miles in Hokas... let alone the super rigid and brutal Carbon X
