So I tried on some Zoom Flys at my local Nike store and walking around I got a dull pain in my right soleus. They are very stiff shoes with a forefoot rocker. Are the vaporflys an identical feel?

I want to know this as well
I assume you mean the Zoom Fly Flyknit, not the standard Zoom Fly. I'll preface it by admitting that I'm a bit biased in that I love both of these shoes. While they look nearly identical, they do feel pretty different, however. The VFs feel much softer/bouncier both walking around and running. Also, the VFs run about a half size smaller than the ZFs. The VFs do feel like you're getting a bit more from the shoe than the ZFs at race pace also.
I have both pairs.....newest models.
The Flyknit are a tad heavier and for sure dont have the same feel in regards to cushion. The 4% have a way softer feel. 4% are a way faster, softer, more responsive feel. You cant feel the stiffness in them at all,
I do repeat workouts in the flyknit. They work well for that. I wouldnt run daily mileage in those. I do that in my Hoka.
Race in the 4%
Not a fan of Nike but between these 2 shoes they are on to something. Its a great 2 shoe rotation for training and racing if you can swallow the $400 for both.
How stiff are the Vaporflys?
I have both shoes as well. The vaporflys are definitely stiff. It's difficult to bend them with your hands, but they don't feel like that when you're racing in them. The zoom fly fk is stiff in your hands and stiff when you're running.
The 4%'s just feel so amazing. At first, I wasn't too sure about paying $250 for a pair of shoes that I just use to race but for me, it's totally worth it.

Not as stiff as the ZF Flyknit.
I thought the ZF Flyknit would be the holy grail with react foam being firmer and the real carbon plate not that "carbon infused" garbage in the OG ZF. Its a pretty dang stiff shoe but in its current state it is a shoe in limbo.
Its advertised as a trainer or racer for slower people...Problem is it does neither. The shoe promotes a forward motion that isnt ideal for slow running and its heavy so doesnt feel good for racing either. I guess if you came from 12oz bricks they'd feel fast.
VF upper put pressure on my foot and caused a lot of pain. The Zoom X is soft the plate offsets that. The VF does lose its bounce after 100 miles. Which is why its promoted for basically 4 marathons.
To be fair the react foam lost its bounce around 140 for me. In the Epic React and Zoom Fly Flyknit.
Personally, there are better shoes out there. I still think the Zoom Streak 7 beats out both of them. But if you can't handle the minimalism of the ZS I can see why you might want the VF. Wasnt worth the foot pain to me.
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
