And, "there's nothing left right now for the 5k, hope it picks up in the next 75 minutes."
Rough conditions for an interview. Glad she showed a little personality and didnt boring platitudes.
Looking forward to this 5000, its gonna be rough in this heat to come back.
she looked toast in that heat after the race, I think 8th place for All-American status would be a very high goal to target. but who knows...stranger things happen and she could be top 4.
It'd be great if she ran on BTC with Houlihan who also seems to be a bit of a joker with her French Bread Friday. Maybe do ridiculous training videos or what not.
AllieO is a hoot. Had me laughing watching the interview just after her win. She looked like toast after the steeple, so not surprised to see her run over 1 min slower than her PR in the 5K. I'm not sure why she didn't scratch the 5K, and call it a great day at that point. Maybe she would have felt guilty doing so after keeping someone else from running Nationals by qualifying at Regionals (I've heard this reasoning before by others)?
If Allie didn't try to qualify for the 5K in the regionals, the next person to qualify (first person out) would have been Ednah Kurgat (New Mexico). So, I highly doubt she didn't scratch from the 5K last night because she 'owed' it to Kurgat. The only time I can imagine that coming close to being an issue is if the first one out of NCAAs was your teammate.
shoulda DNS the 5K?? wrote:

Just check out some of the photo captions on her instagram. Girl is hilarious.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BoSIKQMATlP/She’s super annoying, let’s be honest.
Also running 8:37 or whatever, in a championship full of athletes running world leading and competitive times, shows how weak that event is. She would hardly be on the same side of the track as a decent athlete.

First of all, get your times right - 9:37, obviously.
Secondly, which distance races at this championship had world leading or competitive times? For anything from the 3000 SC to 10,000, it was clearly not a great venue for running super fast. To suggest the distance races were weak just based on the times is totally asinine.
I don't know what her peak ability is in the steeplechase, but at the very least, she should keep working at it.
Allie is a smart, charming person and a tenacious runner. She had a great day. I wish her all the best.

Funny you say that- I agree 100 and also am well-qualified to be called an “old walker”. She is one of a kind in the best ways.

The sun can be out and the level of performance can still be very poor. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
She is embarrassingly quick to state how “special” her performances have been of late (her post-race interview with flotrack is even worse). Very arrogant for someone so far off an impressive performance.
Horrible race conditions, And this wee one grew up in Alaska.

Statistically speaking, a three in a row NCAA champ is special. Or unique - or whatever layman's term you'd like to apply to the frequency of this feat happening.
How many people have tried to win at NCAAs?
How many people have gotten first place?
How many people have gotten first multiple years?
How many people have gotten first 3 years in a row?
The final set of the four listed above is in fact rather small relative to the other sets - aka special.
I've watched a few thousand post-race interviews and that was the first time someone said something that was funny.

There is nothing wrong with what Allie said, she was just answering the questions.
I'd much rather listen to Allie's interviews than all those people who just thank god and quote bible versus. Are all the losers supposed to blame god then?

people who think this was "funny" are why Big Bang Theory was on for so long. Different doesn't equal funny.
It was just a stupid comment and she sounds like a whiny 4-year old.
