Hello friends. Quick hypothetical for you:
The Preface: I was a modestly talented runner in high school- ran 4:25 & 1:59 off of 3 months of solid 40 mpw training during my junior spring (didn't run much over the winter). Then I got injured senior year, had a lackluster college track career, and quit as a college junior because of injuries. I'm now 24. I've barely run in 3 years - other than the occasional easy half hour hungover shakeout every week or two.
The Situation: Yesterday I ran a 5:02 mile for a leg of a charity relay (shitty outdoor course) and it felt amazing - I'd forgotten how much I loved racing. I thought to myself- do I still got it?? My goal in HS was always to break 4:20, and I never did. I never ran a good 1500m in college because of injuries. So this begs the question - if I put in the time and training (could be tough given I work a full time job), could I realistically get into sub 4:20 shape by next spring (1 year from now)?
