I have a mile race coming up next week. It's on a nice, all-weather track. I'm old, but I was planning to steal a pair of spikes from my son (either Saucony Endorphin LD, Kilkenny XC, or Shay XC4) and try them out.
But there's not a track I can practice on before the race. I could try them on a grass football field or some dirt baseball fields, but that's all I can find in the area.
I've been running my mile pace workouts in NB Zantes on a road loop. They work okay. I'm definitely in shape to run under 5:20 (I did that in March). I was hoping to take a crack at 5:00, but that's unlikely. Even sub-5:10 would be a great result for me.
So what do you think?
1 - Wear the Zantes because I'm too slow for it to matter.
2 - Wear the Zantes because I'm old and have no time to get used to spikes on a real track surface.
3 - Try out the spikes on grass/dirt a few times. I'll run faster and the risk of injury is overblown.
