I am a high school graduate as of Tuesday and will be attending Washington and Lee University in the fall. This is my third year running, and I have the following PRs, all achieved with admittedly lackluster training:
800m - 2:17 (This time is from a 4 x 800m split.)
1600m - 4:57
3200m - 10:50 (I was suffering from a cold the one time I got to run this event fresh. I know I have a 10:3x in me.)
5K - 17:30 (I ran this during a solo time trial on a flat XC course a few weeks ago.)
Half Marathon - 1:25:03
The coach at W&L said it would take either a 4:3x mile, 10:0x 2 mile, or 16:3x 5K to have a shot at a spot on the roster. I think I have the best shot at the 5K, but I think it will take some 60-70 mile weeks this summer.
I've used a copy of Daniels Running Formula, as well as some posts about a certain Swedish summer, to make a rough road map for the summer. These first few weeks I'm just running easy mileage (a lot of it on grass and trails) and strides with a few marathon pace tempos thrown in. Come June, I'm going to add some 10K pace intervals (4-6 x 1200-2000), as well as some mile pace repeats (16-20 x 150-300). I'm focusing on running within myself, training not straining. I'm also doubling when the mood strikes me.
I thought it might be fun to share my training log on here and bring you forum readers along for the journey. We'll see if low 16s are possible for a no-talent like me.
