Jim is fast, but he has done nothing that indicates he could break 2:12'. He isn't fitter, more talented, or has better judgement of pace and effort than Parker Stinson.
Jim - could probably run 2:13-15, some day, with enough training and marathon-only focus. Which is impressive.
Parker - has the ability to break 2:10, imho, if he stops f-ing up.
What cracks me up is that he thinks running up and down in the Canyon gives him some sort of advantage over the best US marathoners. In his words, he'll be "dangerous at the trials."
That's what happens when you surround yourself with brown-nosers: you believe your own hype. He hasn't run a marathon yet, and some people refer to him as an "accomplished marathoner", like the lady announcer in the Hoka event the other day.
