A new study came out yesterday about the effects of ketone supplementation.
For some time elite athletes experimented with the stuff and it has been cleared by wada, so it is not a PED.
The results of the study can be found here:
physoc.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1113/JP277831
The results can be summed up as follows:
1. After a simulated tour de france on trained students, the students that used ketone drinks after each training session (twice a day, 6 days per week for 3 weeks) performed 15% better in a time trial.
2. The effects of overtraining/overreaching were diminished -> you can train more/harder.
Ketone drinks were apparently first used by team GB (*cough* Farah *cough*) in the 2012 olympics and are currently very hot
in the pro cycling peloton, though not a single team dares to openly admit using it out of fear
for the public opinion.
Wada allows it because unlike EPO and other sh*t, ketone drinks are not
damaging for an athlete's health. It is basically treated the same as caffeïne, though it is clear now that the effects are much greater.
The ketone drink used in the study (HVMN) can be bought in the USA for 30 dollars per drink.
Should it be allowed, or should it be banned?
