I have a road 5k in 2 weeks at 7:15am. My last 5k a few weeks ago was also in the morning and I did poorly according to what my workouts indicated. In the last couple weeks I have attempted to run some workouts in the mornings to prepare for running hard in the morning, but they have so far all gone poorly. I just feel sluggish and tense in the mornings, even with coffee and some stretching. In the afternoons, I feel great and can kill it in workouts.
Anybody have recommendations on how to prepare for morning running? At this point I am thinking of just stopping doing workouts in the morning and getting up at like 4am race day to make it seem like it's not so early (since I'll be up 3 hours).
