His best before that was 3:47.54!!!! That's a phenomenal improvement. He's born on Dec 27, 1999. So he would still be a junior if he was born 5 days later. It will be interesting to see what he does in the next 2 months.

Dad would be proud if he was still here to see his son run.
Holy Shnikes !
He would have been sixty- one when Theo was born .
His dad was a stud -- it'd be cool if he could follow in his footsteps.
51. Dick Quax was born in 1948.

This is too funny. You're off by a few decades.

I believe you misread this. He said 51 when his son was born.

You are indeed correct. Serves me right.

Dick Quax, was one of the top runners in the World, he won the silver medal in the 5000m at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, in a race won by Lasse Viren. He broke the World record for the 5000m in 1977, he ran 13:12.9. In 1980 he won the Nike OTC Marathon in 2:10:47.

According to Nick Willis, it's a New Zealand junior record.
https://twitter.com/nickwillis/status/1119587713966063617Things are looking good for NZ with him and Sam Tanner at 1500.
It would be great if Nick Willis has company for his record fourth Olympic final in Tokyo.

Stop with your athlete special stuff.
Freshman where? Transfer him to Oregon for endless mirth over his name.
What’s his training like? Is he running pretty high mileage?

Thread last fall on here about NAU training. Summary: lots of aerobic running(some only 80 MPW and others up to 120 MPW), no real ball busting workouts(just greasing the groves), and some hill sprints(on a treadmill if I recall correctly).
He will almost certainly be a LOT BETTER than his father EVER WAS, It is just Evolution/law of nature, every generation (Generally) improves on the one that preceded it.
Tanner was only 1s behind Luke Mathews (best 3:35) and Gregson (3:31) at the Aussie champs. Definitely talented.

While I would like that to happen it usually doesn't work out. How did Michael Jordan's kids do in the NBA? Oh right, they never came close to it. There are more examples of kids with famous athlete fathers not being as successful as their Dad.

Sure, you have centrowitz, etc; but Id wager that more sons and daughters of famous runners never reach the same heights of their parents than those that do.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
