The premise is essentially that spadework is irrelevant. The only thing that matters in marathon performance is miles. I am not sure that this can be extrapolated to elites but for the rest of us it seems to mean to forego all he tempo, interval, fartlek, etc. and just focus on lots of miles for marathon performance.
This premise is based on a study that resulted in the Tanda race predictor which is also discussed.
