Two weeks ago at track tryouts, i ran a 5:40 mile. That really wasn’t too hard of an effort and i feel as if I’m truly in a 5:35 if not 5:30 shape.
I’d guess I could bang out a single 400 in maybe 62-63 seconds. We did 3x400 as part of a workout the other day and i believe i ran something like 1:06, 1:11, 1:09
I also run 4x8 and open 800 but the 1600 is my main event. Haven’t timed one in a while no so idea of that time.
This winter, i ran a consistent 15-20 miles a week, most weeks closer to the 15 side.
Now at track practice, we have it 4 days a week, I’d say we do maybe 3-4 miles a day there and it’s just a lot of Medium effort workouts such as ladders. 2 other guys on my team are around my time.
14 y/o male. 8th grade.
So my questions here are-
A) How low can I get my time by the end of May (5-6 weeks)
B) What can i do other than making sure i put in my best effort at practice and run on the days we don’t have it? Will significantly upping mileage to 30+ miles per week over the next few weeks really help my time that much by the end of may or should i be focusing on hard workouts over long mileage?
This is my first year that I’m not completely horrible in comparison to my competitors, any input is welcome. Thanks!
