What's the best bench press/5K time combo you've ever seen?

A) buddy in high school run 16:27 and benched 205#. I think he weighed about 135#

For A. I'd bet on Alan Webb. For B. I'd bet on Ryan Hall.

I bench pressed 475 and ran a 16:07 5k at the same point in time.

You skinny punks need to look up Hunter McIntyre. The bulk pony can bench upwards of 300 pounds and has run sub 15:30 to close a half marathon.

Viada called and there was an agreement where Johnson would take down the thread and Viada would stop making outrageous claims and would enter actual races.

Viada kept making his claims and did not enter the events he said he would, but any mention of him here got quickly deleted for awhile. But that was like 5 years ago and the Viada moratorium has expired or softened.

I do wonder what the trade off is, eventually. I guess a lot depends on how they've trained for all cumulative years of HS/College, post College.

If they've just been in the weight room with little to no aerobic work, that's not really a fair assessment. I'd be intrigued to see what a college hoops player could run in a 5k. A lot of aerobic work, and quite explosive too. I remember a shooting guard in college put up 265, if teammates confirmed it, and that boy could RUN. He was bigger too, 6'3 190-200 lbs.

Could he have broken 20 minutes? Possibly. A 2 mile time trial for some athletes would be more interesting.

You need to put far more weight on the 5k times. There are endless people in the world that can bench 200-300 lbs, but only very few that run sub 13.

Didn't Joe Falcon bench press something like 400lbs which destroyed his college football team PRs and then he went on and blasted a 13-20 5K on the track. Can't see anyone beating that combo.

More like 280. Granted that was still about 2x his body weight:)

I could bench 225 when I ran 14:55 and later benched 275.

Joe Falcon benched at least 250 when he was running 13:20.
