So, as a young coach (only my 3rd year coaching at a small middle school), I have a question. I coach a 7th grade boy and he's terrific in multiple events. Never had a kid quite this good at any one of these events, much less many. Here are his current season bests in each event he has participated in:
100m - 11.70
200m - 24.05
400m - 52.65 (also 51 high relay split)
800m - 2:07.91 (also 2:05 relay split)
1500m - 4:45.11
1600m - 4:59.30
Long Jump - 5.81m
Discus - 40.2m
He typically runs 200/400 4x400 and throws discus at meets. But we have tried him in a few other races this season for a variety of reasons and he's good at everything. He looks like a future decathlete. He loves the field events he has done. Prefers the 100/200 double because his perception that it requires less work / training. But he's so damn good at the 4 and 8.
What the heck do I do? How do I mold this young talent ?
