Help! I found this study very hard to interpret. It compares performance after 9 weeks of 4 different types of training in highly trained endurance athletes. The types of training were low-intensity long distance (LOW), threshold training, HIIT training, and POL (a combined approach).
As I read this, the POL approach combined HIIT with LOW to get the best result, but the POL approach also added 6-8 five second sprints DURING the low intensity runs. I've never heard of anything like this. Has anyone tried tossing 6 five-second sprints into their low-intensity runs? How did it work for you? Has anyone ever heard of such a training approach?
