From the Atlanta Journal this morning:
Jeff Galloway, the winner of the first Peachtree in 1970, is still one of the most recognizable figures in the field of 55,000. Wearing a T-shirt inscribed with his "Run Walk Run" program for distance training, Galloway said he took 15 walk breaks Monday.
"I actually ran faster than I did last year when I only took about two walk breaks," said Galloway, who will turn 60 next week and estimated his time at 41:30. "It's great; you're starting to slow down, so you walk, then you can pick right back up and pass people."
He admits people may look at him strangely when they see the former Olympian walking.
"I don't care what they think," said Galloway, who has also won the Atlanta Marathon twice. "It works."
