Whats up guys, I have a 3:00 800m, my coach says I'm not trying hard enough and I should be able to pull off a 2:40 easily. Is my coach just saying this or is this possible??

Lol what are your other prs and what year, I know nothing about yourself and or times how would anyone be able to predict it?
Unless you are trolling which you probably are
My first 800m was 3:00, then 3:03, I also ran cross country and ran a 22 minute 5k if that helps.

This tells me you are able to run 2:58 if you train really well for 5 years.
From personal experience and by what you’ve said, I honestly feel like with hard training for 3+ weeks, you could get down to around a 2:57. I went from a 2:58 to a 2:44 in a 2 week span. Of course other factors come into play, but it’s mostly because of the training. Talk to your coach and ask him to watch you run and see if your form is messed up, because this could be a reason why, if that’s even a problem. Also I would like to know, what is your biggest problem when running the 800? Are you out of breath fast, legs get tired quickly, no motivation, etc. And estimate where on a track would you start feeling these problems.
My first 800m was 3:01 , and a week later I ran 3:00. If you just start running more and build it up, 5-10 minutes more per week (ie. week one 30 minutes total, week two 40 minutes total, etc) be patient and you will improve. I ran 3:01 on a grass track. 4 months later I trained and ran 2:38 on a proper tartan track. Two months later, 2:26. By the time a year had passed I ran 2:14. Then a year later I ran 2:05.
It's real to run 2:40 or 2:50.
OP
Run 25 miles per week for 4 weeks
Include 2 track workouts per week. 8x 400m, and some hill repeats.
When you get your 400 under 82, give it a go.
