Does anyone remember the brand of running shorts from the '90s that had the fern leaf logo? I think they were split shorts and may have had some connection to New Zealand.

They were called "New Zealand Splits" and were made by International Sports.
Also, they were around since at least 1980. I believe Salazar wore a green pair at NYC in 1980.
They were around in the 70's as well but not sure if that was the same company or not. I believe Rod Dixon used to wear them before he signed on with Saucony.
International Sports became Sportco then went out-of-business in, I think, about 2007 or 2008.

They were around a little earlier than that, probably 1978. I used to screen print them in either '78 or ;79.
I've got a few 1978 Runners World magazines, and the shorts are advertised in the back. There's a shot of a male and female model at the Mesa Trail trailhead (Boulder).
I still have a pair from the late 70's - I think I purchased them from a Chicago area athletic supplier/legend named Dick Pond. I am quite certain I cannot come close to fitting in them today. Maybe I will dig them out and give them to my grandson.
