Have you been running at all since doing that 2:50? If so, you might have a chance of doing it (as long as you've been running anywhere near the amount you were when you ran the 2:50 or more). The best thing you can do for yourself is to pace yourself properly. Run the first lap 76 and hold on
I agree, but running it in 76 might be too fast right? I'm not sure I'll try it out, should I be aiming for s 2:40 first then go down. But Say I do run in 76 and I feel tired...what do i do?
If you were dead-set on going for a 2:35 time, then 76 seconds for the first lap and 79 for the second lap would be the ideal pacing strategy. Usually most athletes when going for a personal best or setting a personal best in the 800m will positive split the race (i.e run the first lap faster than the second, and the difference is usually 2-3 seconds, sometimes even 4). You could try and even split, but that's a very tough way of running your fastest time in the 800 and if you do hit 2:35 running 77.5 and 77.5, you're likely capable of going even faster.
TLDR: If you want to run 2:35 and you're dead-set on it, experience says to go out in 76, maybe 77 if you're a very strong runner and your speed isn't the best. Good luck. If you feel like you're not quite in 2:35 shape and are aiming for 2:40, then perhaps 78-79 would be more ideal; this way you still could have a chance of running 2:35 if your fitness is much better than you expected and can perhaps negative split your way to 2:35. Good luck
