Online sales for Skechers can be very cheap. Also you can find cheap shoes at discount department stores.
The cheapest you will find running shoes marked down is about 30 US dollars these days.
find a model you like and look them up on ebay. maybe find lightly used ones but I've gotten almost 700 miles out of a pair of cheap ebay shoes
I have seen decent running shoes donated by local running store at the goodwill.
Ebay. Buy them used. Take a look, you'll be surprised.
Are you in the USA?
Agree with the recommendation for Ebay. Look for lightly used shoes and you can get something decent really cheap. Some shoes have lots of picture, in particular I look for pairs with very little sole wear.
You can also fix your old shoes by re-soling them or by using Shoe Glue.
I got a pair of Saucony Freedom Iso's (blue jean color) unworn that ill give away for cheap (30$ shipped).
The Champion Gusto CT is the greatest shoe ever made. Too bad Payless went under but you may still be able to grab a lifetime supply on discount. I'm trying to.

+1
Salvation Army stores, too.
What size are you? I've got a few pairs of VERY lightly used I could part with if you don't mind "older" pairs (probably 3 or 4 years old)
I went almost a decade without ever spending more than $30. There's discontinued racks at places like dicks sporting goods and once I found a good pair at Gabriel bros. Salvation army only ever gave me a pair of hoka bonci ($10 lightly used) and while you cant be too picky for cheap shoes it's the only one I ever thought I paid too much for.
You can also check out your local running clubs. You'd be surprised.
Big 5.
They have models that are going to discontinue at great prices.

Just at Walmart and they've put out their spring stuff. They've got flip-flops for 98 cents and a running shoe for $9.98. Its got a weird Swoosh on the side but so what.

I've seen you promote these before but never gave it a second thought. Today I went to buy my son another pair of school sneakers through Payless right before seeing this comment. I never made the connection but he's been wearing Gusto CTs for two years now. I had hoped to find another deal like I did last year: two pairs for $25. Looks like I need to stop by one of the local stores and see if I can find some in his size (and the next few sizes up) as online ordering is gone :-(

Hopefully it's not too late. Our local stores are all closed I think. I managed to grab three more pairs as the prices dropped for liquidation.
If you decide to try them keep in mind the crappy memory foam insole will fool you regarding the fit. They run true to size but I rip the insole out and replace it with a normal insole.
Send an email to the running shoe companies with this:
"I'm just a poor boy,
I don't want your sympathy,
My run is easy come, easy go
A little long, little slow
Anyway the run goes, doesn't really matter to me, to me,
It's my escape from reality"
I just bought some slightly used zoom fly flyknits on eBay they were $45.
I got them yesterday I dont even think they were used beyond 5 miles. The soles still look flawless and the insert isn't worn at all plus no creases.
I was skeptical but I'm open to it again if its over 60-70% off.
