High school senior, running D3 in college. Current PRs are as follows:
400: 67
800: 2:23
1600: 5:02
3200: 10:41
3 mile XC: 17:07
I’ve been trying to crack 5 minutes in the mile since my junior year of track which is when I ran my PR of 5:02 at the very last meet of the season. So far this year I ran 5:09 at our very first meet, then ran a 5:03 twice in the last two times I ran it. I was expecting to go sub 5 at indoor conference which was last Friday but I ran a 5:03 again! I went out in 70 flat for the first 400, 2:29 for the 800, and then 3:47 for the 1200. It was also run on a indoor track that had very sharp turns but still.
As far as training goes, I’m running more mileage than anyone on my team. I’ve been averaging 45 mpw since January and my highest week has been 47 miles. This is with a track workout on Monday, morning doubles twice a week, a meet on Friday, 12 mile long run on Saturday, and sometimes a tempo run on Wednesday. I’m currently running my 12 mile long runs at 7:00 flat pace and it feels easy and relaxed, which is why it baffles me that I can’t break 5 in the mile! I also do core work 5-6 days a week, upper and lower body strengthening 3-4 times a week
I am also very light if that helps at all, (5’8.5, 112 pounds).
