So, after about 10 weeks easing back into exercise with short runs several times a week (plus biking and eliptical primarily), I had an odd run today. I have a an Epson GPS watch that I have found generally to be very accurate (by testing it across distances that are well established). I put it on today and went out to run about 25-30 minutes. I typically run at between around 8:00-8:20 pace depending on how I am feeling. This evening I did a couple of loops in a park, but I am unfamiliar with the loop distance. I felt like I was moving at a good clip (for me), and my heart rate was up pretty high. Yet after about 9 minutes I looked at the watch and it claimed I was doing 9:15 pace. WTF? I simply cannot accept that. It felt closer to sub 8. It basically went between 8:50-9:10 the rest of the run, despite my picking it up the last half or so. Any idea what could produce some inaccurate paces/distances? Or does it seem more likely I was moving far slower than I believed....I am usually a pretty good judge of pace and effort, or so I thought... Has anyone had similar experiences?
