The guy is actually a bad role model encouraging people to go hard as hell every workout. I’m part of a few running groups and have seen more than one post from people indicating they were injured doing stupid long runs or trying to train like that guy. The best part is that he himself doesn’t even train how he claims he does. For instance him saying he runs 27 miles a day plus bikes 30 miles a day on top of that ....
David Goggins has likely got 100s or people injured with his “‘motivation”.

Come on he really claims he runs 27 miles aday
-
Claims to have run a 100 mile race with no training? Then a 3 hour marathon a month later with no training in between? Hard to believe.
-
Never heard of the guy but checked his Ultrasignup and he has been putting up solid results in Ultras for 15 years.
-
If you actually read his book, you’d see that he says several times to NOT do what he does, that it will lead to injury. Nice try troll.
-
I am not disputing the results but I am disputing that he did his first 100 and a 3 hour marathon with no training. Now maybe he was running, hiking, marching 5-10 miles a day and doing other PT that he didn't count as training.
-
On one hand, I agree that some soccer mom who wants to run a marathon treating Goggins as "motivational" is dumb and kinda fucked up and will probably contribute to injuries.
On the other hand, on his most recent JRE appearance, he explicitly discussed using a heart rate monitor to track overtraining (via fluctuations in resting AM HR) and limit intensity during his training (MAF-ish), which is a good deal more sensible and restrained than a lot of the swinging dicks on this board. -

He was a Navy SEAL when he did both the 100 and the 3 hour marathon so of course he didt just hop off the couch and do them! I believe he claimed that leading up to those races he pretty much just lifted heavy and hit the eliptical once or twice a week. Hard to believe...yes for some, and especially if you're the type of person who trolls on lets run while eating hot pockets in your moms basement. -
If you listen to snippets, yeah you're going to get injured. But I think what he means when he says "no training" he means no ultra/marathon specific training. The dude obviously is always working out in some capacity.

David Goggins is a joke. He isnt anywhere near elite level....yet is more famous then all the elites

Check this out about marathon training.

Sounds exactly like Alberto Salazar--so many caresses of runnings cast adrift after Salazar's training plan result is major injury.
-
I suggest you should check your facts before posting David Goggins has never said anyone should train like him just he believes there is a lot more in people s locker than they imagine.
-
You injured my brain with the dumb title typo.
-
Time to shut down his sites. Enough is enough.

He was fat AF. He wasn't doing PT. Watch the Joe Rogan podcasts you hater. -
I'd like to see anyone talking sh*t about David Goggins say it to his face. You'd be talking to a man who did over 4,000 pull ups in 17 hours. He's a lunatic; and he's tougher than you.
Who cares if David Goggins got a bunch of soft people injured because they were dumb enough to think a couch2ultra-marathon was feasible. That's not his fault that they're weak and dumb. -
I can see why Goggins is an easy target but if you took some time to learn about him I believe you will see what I see.
He's authentic and is adamant about people not training like him. He's got demons and he is mastering them. I also believe that he's not all there; rather he has a unique ability to train through injuries and pain that rational people would let heal. -
I loved his book and found it inspiring.
No, I didn't take it literally.
Even the seals didn't like his blind gogogogo, time and place for everything. -
Goggins did run a 100 mile ultra with no run specific training and then ran the Las Vegas Marathon shortly after. He did the 100 mile race as a way to attempt to qualify for Badwater, which he planned to do for charity. When he still wasn’t guaranteed a spot he did the Hurt 100 in Hawaii and just about killed himself. The guy went through Hell Week to be a Seal multiple times. He is absolutely insane. Anyone attempting to train like him is a fool. You really should read his book before badmouthing him. He tells no one to train like him. Only says almost all people don’t tap into their true potential, which I think is pretty true.
