Training? Skechers GOrun Ride 7. At 90 bucks, it's the best value in running shoes right now, as far as I can tell.
For racing, you can snag the Nike Zoom Speed Rival 6 for 80 bucks. It's a trainer/racer from the Japanese market (listed as a racing flat, but built to handle training miles as well) and gets great reviews for its accommodating fit and snappy ride.
Good suggestions, however if you have a wider foot you may need to size up 1/2 in Skechers (I had odd hip/knee pain)
I've been having good luck with: Brooks Launch 6, Reebok floatride forever, and NB1400V6. Reebok's & Brooks L6 are really underrated. You should be able to find Brooks right in local run shop Sam with NB1400v6.
All 3 are MSRP$100- with old NB 1400 colors < than $60. On a scale of ride firm-soft The Brooks are slightly firmer than Reebok NB the firmest. All three of these find their sweet spot at 50miles and you don't notice them. Also they all have a full coverage of durable rubber gripping well in all conditions.
fwiw at 6'180 I'm not built like an elite but for some reason these lighter shoes/rotation have relieved my tendon/joint problems I was having in softer cushioned shoes-(solar glide,Skechers, ghost 11)
