The Euro Indoors are this weekend, and the first women's final is the best race of the entire meet as we've got reigning champ Laura Muir (8:26 pb) vs. Konstanze Klosterhalfen (8:29 pb) of Germany and the Nike Oregon Project.
Muir will have the home crowd behind her as she is Scottish and the meet is being held in Glasgow. But Klosterhalfen has looked really good this year, crushing everyone to win the Wanamaker Mile in 4:19 (Muir ran 4:18 in Birmingham 2 weeks ago) and soloing an 8:32 German indoor record at the German champs two weeks ago. Both women are fierce, aggressive racers, so this should be some race.
It may be worth tuning in a little early as the women's pentathlon 800 is at 4:15 p.m. ET and Katarina Johnson-Thompson is chasing the world record.
You should be able to watch the race online for free here:

Thanks for the info, had no idea. This will make a slow work day go a little quicker once the stream goes live

Muir is running 1500m heats beforehand, not sure Klosterhalfen is. Would still back Muir though. -
Maybe the drug cheat Szabo's outdoor European record of 8:21.42 from 2002 will be in play this summer for these athletes in a race where one could draft behind pacers and someone like Obiri, Ayana, or Dibaba, if she is in shape in the summer.
But right now with Koko needing to set a fast pace to burn off Muir's kick and both in excellent shape with 4:18 for Muir and 4:19/8:32 solo for Koko, the European record is likely to go.
3000 m 8:26.41 Laura Muir Great Britain 4 February 2017 Weltklasse in Karlsruhe Germany Karlsruhe, Germany -
Will Koko ever be on Conan O'Brien's show? Koko on Team Coco!
-
I see that Koko is not running in tonight's 1500m heats which gives her a far better chance of winning the 3000m final which is happening 2hr 30mins later.
How will Koko run the race? I feel that she will go hard from the gun hoping the Laura's 1500m heat effort will leave her a bit vulnerable to an all-out hard pace.
Still fancy Laura. -
Looks like the bureaucrats in Europe are already enjoying handing out DQs that had no impact on a race.

SO Jakob has made the 1500 and 3k finals. Filip was DQd in the 1500 prelims and had this to say initially afterword, "I am confused. I don´t understand why I have been disqualified. There´s always touching in these races, so I don´t understand. I was running like I always do. I felt good. I felt my body responded better here than in Dusseldorf. I´m angry and confused."

Muir will win by around 1.5 or 2 seconds. Whilst Klosterhalfen has been improving she won't be able to burn off Muir from the front and she doesn't have the finishing speed or the speed endurance over a longer closing effort to compete with Muir.
-
Butchart owned by Jakob. Expect girlfriend Sharp to burst in to tears about how unfair it is to be racing against juniors.
-
Laura Muir has the home crowd and is probably clearly better in a fast finish. So Koko's best bet would be either to go hard from the gun as you say or at least at about halfway through the race. This is also somewhat risky but she likes frontrunning and usually hits the pace perfectly. In any case she is considerably stronger and also seems more tactically aware than last season, but Muir might still be too strong. The longer Koko waits, the more advantage to Muir.
Muir can probably coast along in her 1500m heat, it is not a strong field, so this will not hurt her too much, I think. -
It wasn't really a close thing though, he tried to barge through on the inside and ran about two feet inside the track.
-
I was down at the Emirates Arena for the AM session today and I'm glad Filip Ingre. got disqualified. Guy let himself get badly boxed in then shoved other people out of the way. Hasn't he got form for this sort of thing?
Anyway Jakob wisely stuck to the front and had no trouble.
Saw the W8 and M15 but had to leave before the M3k after they seemed to juggle the schedule about, or else the programme was wrong.
Can't wait for the evening session on the TV. -

But Muir does have the 1500 qualifier race 2 1/2 hours before whilst Klosterhalfen does not. Meet has begun streaming. -
.....and of course, the coverage is of a very high standard!
-
OK that's part one of the Laura Muir challenge ticked off...
-
I have a friend here who is asking if there are any men competing in the Women's middle distance events in these Euros?
Not looking to provoke just genuinely interested as he's not sure if there are any. -
Fantastic coverage here on eurovision, simple informative graphics ie what attempt # for field events and "hot seat" for time Qs in mid distance races. bravo

The Beeb is also good as long as they stay away from the bubbleheads in the studio.
