The "High School Kick" is high key annoying

Would any of you agree? That this "High School" kick is somewhat annoying, even if it's effective on winning races? It is an important strategy to learn, its just something that frustrates to see inexperienced kids use, rather than be bold and try to get a fast time.

1. You’re not as fast as you think you are.

2. You’re definitely complaining.

That “annoying high school kick”strategy doesn’t go anywhere my friend. Mo Farrah has ridden that “annoying” kick to multiple world championship and Olympic golds. Focus on improving your fitness and running faster, not on what other runners are doing. You’ll enjoy running a lot more when you make this mental paradigm shift.

You ran your first 600 at 10:40 pace and finished at 11:34? Looks like you went out too hard, settled into a groove and were too gassed to finish strong. You ran 5:34/6:00 splits. I'm willing to bet he ran closer to even.

If you rank your laps from 1-16, with 1 being fastest and 16 being slowest, in your last 800 you ran your 13th, 16th, 12th and 7th ranked laps.

You did slow down, and he sped up. Seems like it worked for him.

Cheserek ran every college race as slow as possible and then outkicked the competition. Watch almost every men’s college distance race and you will see a jog followed by a huge kick.

I agree with the title of this thread and that's about it.

I hate the "High School Kick" but not the one the OP is referring to. It's the one you see in cross country races when there are 50 meters left in the race and somehow the kids go from running 6:30/mile to 4:00/mile. I'm not talking about the kids who are winning the race. I'm talking about the kids who are in the middle of the pack and clearly could have run much faster but save it so they can have an amazing kick. I'm not in high school anymore and I probably didn't notice it when I was in high school but I do now. When I go to my brother's xc/track races I see kids put their head down and sprint the last 100m like they are in the 100m dash. It looks like they are working hard in the middle of the race they each have their own "pain face" but when they come into the last 100m it is clear that they weren't suffering at all. That's what annoys me.

I watched a middle school track meet last season where in multiple races, the girl in first place, with a 75m-100m lead would sprint that last 100 as fast as she could. I was dumbfounded.

a good troll effort, I like your username being "consistancy" as you post horribly paced splits and complain of people outkicking you as you crawl to the finish line

When I was training as an 800m guy, my coach would sometimes slot me in the 3200 for points. I'd jog the thing and sprint the last lap and usually win noncompetitive races. Didn't really want to be there and hated the 3200 in HS.

I believe the proper terminology is “JV Kick”

I too hate it when people are so stupid that they make dumb mistakes that result in them being better than me.

Also, OP is an all-time Tool or Troll, there is no middle ground. I'll call him a Trool for now.

how is that even splits controlled effort? your a tool that got beat by a a runner who ran smarter.

You ran a huge positive split and the other guy probably ran a slight negative split and actually stayed even throughout the race. He didn't have the "high school kick", you had the high school "goes out too fast"
