There were quite a few people running the 400 in my last track meet, and I noticed that almost all of the guys and about half of the girls used blocks. Problem is, all of their times were relatively slow. The average guy ran around 59-60, and the fastest time was in the low 57s.
I realize that their PRs are probably faster than that since it's still early in the season, but this got me thinking - since blocks are optional at the HS level, is it worth using them if you're slow? If you can't break 57, do blocks even give you any benefit?
