He's training for the 100 with a coach with an ambitious goal yet every other day he's posting a pic of him getting his miles in on the trail or running easy on the treadmill. What gives?

He's trying not to get hurt as a 34-35 year old chasing a boy's dream.
I saw a recent video where he ran a 4.9 40 yard dash with a running start. He was barefoot though. But I'm a little skeptical he gets under 11 seconds in the 100 meter unless he uses the same running start trick he used in his 40 yard dash
He needs to hit the gym 3x week and start doing a lot of plyos and drills if he is going to get a decent first 40m.

He's an idiot, that's why.
Apparently sprint workouts aren't as instagram worthy.

I don't see the connection (either to the age or staying injury free)
Isn't easy mileage is counterproductive to 100m training?

Basically it serves three functions:
1. Active warm up. When you get old it takes longer to warm up your body. And the best way to do it is by easy jogging.
2. Building up his base to return for 2020.
3. To keep his muscles healthy as too much intensity can cause problems.
In his workout Wednesday videos he has done a workout with 200s and an 800, a 40m dash workout, and hill sprints over the past few weeks. The easy runs are just to build a base and stay in shape. Over the next few weeks I’d bet he will slowly transition to more sprint based workouts as his body gets used to running fast again. He has a year to break 11 and has plenty of time to build up.

I would add that aerobic fitness, gained by some long, slow miles, will help him recover from sprint workouts.
But you don’t want to overdo it.

Look in the mirror son. That sounds like the sprint training at UCLA, going all the way back to the 60s.
How 'bout you 'splain that to John Smith?
