It's pretty high. I've seen guys who are in their late 20's, maybe even early 30's running. So I believe 25 is just fine. Ask the coach, you'll get a less vague answer.
I don't know of an age limit upheld by DII rules. I know that you can only participate in athletics for ten semesters once you have enrolled in a college, but I do not know the rules if you are going back to college.
no dII age rule
Correct-there is no age limit in DII. You're allowed 10 semesters of full time enrollment in which to complete 4 seasons of eligibility. If you take a year off in the middle it doesn't count against you in DII. I had a guy on my ski team who was 25 this year, had enrolled part time 5-6 years ago and taken occasional classes all along. He was classified as having 4 years of eligibility this year because last fall was his first year as a full-time student.
My understanding: Once you begin full-time enrollment, the clock starts ticking on your 10 semesters. I was told it does not matter if you take a year off in the middle except under special circumstances, but I know of someone who ran their 6th year after being on co-op for a year so that part may be incorrect.
I ran DII and I had a teammate who was 36 yrs. old
The ten semester limit in Div II does not have a time limit. You could use eight semesters and come back 10 years later and still be ok to compete for the last two semesters if you hadn't used all of your seasons.
