So I have been training to break 10 minutes at my first meet this season which is March 12 on a 300 meter indoor track and I had no idea what I could do seeing as last season at this same meet I went 11:04. So I decided to run a 5 minute mile on the treadmill to see how hard it would be. I started at easy pace for a quarter first so the treadmill speeding up wouldn't affect it cranked it up to 12 mph and hit 5 minute mile and it wasn't that difficult other than my core hurting a slight amount. I was starting to feel the burn in my legs on the last quarter. I was wondering about where this put me at training wise for my race in a month. Also I did this off of only base mileage no speed work aside from plyometrics and lifting and I was wearing Asics gel-Kayano shoes if that matters at all. track practice starts next Monday and we will start working on speed then. In competition in spikes (nike zoom victory 3) should I be able to break the 10 min wall? and there will be competition at this meet its the largest high school indoor meet in the nation I believe kids usually go from 9:30-12:00 in 3 different heats. thanks
