I know your love your kids and they are probably the most special kids on the planet. But you need to understand something. Never, ever, ever, sit at a table with your children next to another occupied table -- UNLESS that table is also occupied with children.
In a booth situation, particularly where the backs or seats are attached, never, ever, ever sit with your kids unless there is an empty booth in between you and another party.
What you probably don't realize because you are numb to it is that your kid is squirming around, jumping up and down, slamming against the back of the booth, and all that is transferring into the bodies of the person seated on the other side. Surely you can imagine how annoying that must be?
Also, allowing your bored child to be "entertained" by loud video games on a phone or tablet is not appropriate in any restaurant other than Chucky Cheese, and maybe McDonalds.
And, if you didn't know this -- it's completely ok to tell a hostess to seat you away from other couples or people without children. So if you walk into the restaurant with your little bundle of joy and he/she tries to put you next to someone, just do this -- point to a table further away and say "Can we sit there? These people look like they want a little more privacy". This also sends a valuable message to dimwitted restaurant staff who try repeatedly to seat families with small children on top of other people that this is not acceptable -- a win all around!
Thanks!
