I'm aware that they don't ever seem to greet or nod to me, a male runner so I was wondering if this applies to other female joggers. I said joggers because it seems that most runners (fast, slow, young or old) will at least nod or smile. Male joggers are probably 50/50 but female joggers definitely will not.
As a rule, runners do, joggers don’t. I always put it down to women being more competitive with each other than men, not always in a good way.
Maybe you are ugly. I can get almost anyone to wave at me, and I’m an introvert that doesn’t smile much. We used to keep count on our runs back in HS/College at who could get the most ‘responders’, and we’d rate them 1, 2, or 3 based on how nicely they waved back.
I still wave all the time, and almost never get someone who doesn’t wave back. Female joggers especially always wave back.
Well, it's not going to help them much if they don't look in my direction.
Female runner. I acknowledge anyone who's running (and walkers too if they leave enough space on the path for me to go by or make some effort at restraining their dog.)

Could perhaps be where you live as well. I live in a relatively safe area so saying hi is just nice. If I were to run down a path that was a bit more sketch I usually will not even look up.
I've nodded before and watched the male turn around and try and run me down/with me... It was very scary I was 16 years old and it was like 5 AM and pitch dark out. (My team did am runs but I was alone on that portion). I remember frantically looking for team members I was afraid.
I also live in the south and just chatty chat chat if you even remotely give someone the time of day here.
Your average hobby jogging fitness girl does not acknowledge a male runner, and I give them a wide berth. In my experience, the older moms are the most polite and considerate of the lot.
I see girls on the collegiate team during my runs and they are a polite bunch. I usually give them a quick thumbs up.
You have to be aware that women can feel threatened if you are running behind them. I switch sides or pass them.
In my town everyone who jogs is blind, except me. So that I don't spook them I always sing while running. But many of them are also deaf. I have very long arms and I sometimes pull on their clothes.
They acknowledge each other by flashing their high beams at each other.
No we don't, because that would go against our code of not being bothered while we run. Because of history and stuff.

Sounds incredible really. What team has their 16 year old girl athletes running alone, even for a portion, at 5 am in pitch black?
If it happened, it's terrible, and I don' t doubt there are plenty of creeps out there ready to do stuff like that, but sounds a bit hard to believe the way you described it. I think in these MeToo times, women can just make stuff up off of the top of their heads and because of their psychological makeup, they can actually believe it as though it happened.
As for me (a male jogger), women barely ever say hello, usually just looking at me with disgust if I so much look up at them. I also get frequent abuse from women and girls walking past. Just yesterday a group of Spanish teens passed me as I was jogging along and one of the girls made a point of looking down at my groin area and then turned to the others sniggering. I wasn't wearing compression shorts, just loose winter jogging bottoms.
I also run in quite busy running/cycling paths/trails, and often see a male jogger give a cheery hello to a female jogger and then blank me, lol.
