Today was one of my first track workouts back that hasn't been a complete failure. Season starts in 4 weeks, and I want to get a time trial in, but I race horribly on my own and don't even have a coach at the moment to at least time or yell at me to run faster. My goal is to break 5 minutes by mid-April.
3 x 1600m, 2ish minutes rest between each + 4 strides
Splits:
6:37
6:35
6:34

My goal for the repeats was to keep an even pace the entire time and run comfortably. My splits each 100m were almost perfectly even (24-25). I was breathing hard, but my heart rate was pretty low for the first two (~150bpm) and a bit higher on the last one (~167). I definitely could have run harder or done at least two more reps, but since that wasn't the point of the workout and I'm trying to stop racing all my workouts, I kept a more comfortable pace.
Any thoughts on 1600m possibility? Or 3200m? Thanks in advance.
