how good are 400 meter intervals with 45-60 second rest?
they seem to be very popular but some of the famous coaches dont seem to discuss them?
have they a place in 10k or longer training? and if so, how should they be used best?

RONNIE PICKERING!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0dcv6GKNNwIf you Google "trainability of vo2max" and look at the scholarly articles that pop up, you'll find that the studies seem to support the idea that intervals of 3 to 5 minutes in length are the most effective way to train vo2max.
That doesn't mean that 400m intervals with short rest won't have a positive impact, just that they won't give you the most bang for your buck since, even with short rest, a relatively high percentage of each interval will be spent bringing your heart rate back up to vo2max range.
As a result, most people limit 400m intervals at 5k pace to early or late in the training cycle efforts. Stuff that lets you touch on 5k pace butbthat isn't very taxing fits well at this times.
JS is a self-promoting coach who claims to coach lots of Kenyans and ceaselessly advocates 400m intervals at vo2max pace with receivers done via heart rate rather than via time. He thinks that this is an effective let low stress way to improve vo2max. I, along very many, disagree with him.
In fact, I assumed that this was one of his very many posts under an alias which are posted for he sole purpose of trying to solicit coaching clients.
