Could Rupp qualify in his 1500m prelim en route to a 13:45 5K??
I think so.

Honestly, who gives a fuq?
I am impressed with Rupp choosing to run the junior races. He needs to get used to the pressure of being the overwhelming favorite. Running with the seniors would have produced a faster time in the 5000m or 10000m but not advanced him as a runner. This is a smart decision by him an Alberto.
My guess is that Salazar felt he could not the the standard time for the open 10K to run worlds. With the field this year, there's no doubt in my mind he would've been 3rd place, unless staying with Abdi/Meb would've caused him to rig a bit too much.
Perhaps the reason he chose to run the junior races is because he is in fact a junior.

If he ran even splits no. atleast i dont think so. to do a 1500m it would take him 4.125 minutes which is approxamately 4 min 7 and 1/2 seconds. And im pretty sure that wouldnt qualify you. or atleast i hope not.

If this were an alternate universe, and he could qualify for the 1500 finals while running a 5k, then he probably wouldn't run attempt even splits (for the 5k).
er..."attempt to run even splits", that is.
No, I'm not saying he'd try to necessarily run even splits. He couldn't really do that....but just qualify as easy as possible, then keep going to a 13:45. I think he could.
BTW, Rupp's got the 1500m in the bag, but is there a big kicker in the group who could upset him, Jefferson over Willis style, if the pace was slow enough?

running a junior race advances him more as a runner? no way. running with older, faster, more experienced guys will slow his progress, how do u figure that one? get used to being the overwelming favorite, like he isn't used to that from HS? its time he does the opposite, and becomes addept(sp?) at mentally and physically dealing with runners at his level and better.
sorry, but....my vote for most ignorant post of the day.

The junior 1500 is the right race psychologically for Rupp.
1.He is the BIG FISH at juniors.
2.A 1500 is allways fun for a 5/10 guy,very little pressure.
3.It will motivate him to run nationals next year.
4.He is not yet ready to run 27:49 or 13:21.

I agree, what is the point of Rupp running a race with guys when he isn't going to be able to prolong his season. He's not going to be able to attain the world standard in the 5 or 10k just yet, so why not go the junior olympic route and run a race that is a little more fun, hone your racing skills, and build up your confidence. Also, that would too many 10k's for that kid if he'd try to run another one. This IS and smart decision, and I commend Salazar for doing so.

as long as u rank me as less ignorant than the other comment, i am fine with that.
1st off, u guys don't know wat u r talking about.
maradona, the soccer player, was 11 years old in Argentina, and they had him play against 25 year old grown men, and he imporved by playing against those older, larger, stronger, and better than him. this simple rule applies to all of sports.
in no way should he get used to being the overwhelming favorite. where would be be like that? maybe a local 5k road race, surely not in the NCAA, USA Nationals, or a world level competition. he isn't even the fastest qualifier for the finals in the USATF Junior nationals 1500 prelims. he ran slower than a HSer, and he's ran, wat 7 seconds faster than that HSer over a year ago? not so overwhelming anymore, is he?

Rupp will have plenty of competition at Worlds in the 1500, so he'll be getting a bit of experience.
