Yea, try again bro. Most of the best distance coaches in this country are probably HS coaches, they identify talent and develop it from scratch, the so called good college coaches recruit the talent and if hope they don't screw it up. The most successful of that group are the ones who recruit enough talent so that even when they do screw it up, they have enough able bodies left to be successful.
I've coached both high school and college. They are nothing alike for the most part. The nuts and bolts are the same in training, but college has a lot more factors to account for. There's a reason you're paid a lot more. High school coaches don't want to hear this, but when I talk to my old high school coaching friends I realize how much stuff we thought about college that is just not true.
I'm just saying it was eye-opening. I used to think high school and college were the same and anyone could coach college, but I was wrong. Most high school ADs don't even care if you're good or not so there's no pressure.
