There are over 274 players in the NFL, and there are far fewer people who pursue football seriously past college than there are running. So are some nfl starters just hobby footballers? Do some guys in the NBA just play basketball as a hobby?

Now that you see how ridiculous your statements are, for anyone who runs 2:12 marathoning is not a hobby.

But what is a hobby? Per the Oxford English dictionary a hobby is an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure. Marathoning may be pursued in one's leisure time, depending on how you define it, but if you had any grasp of what it takes to run a 2:12 marathon, you'd certainly know its not done for pleasure.

Absolutely. Nothing beats Boston on marathon weekend with the hobbyjog masses strutting about pre-race in their Boston Marathon Jackets basking in their self-perceived running god status.

I ran 2:14 and I would consider myself a hobby jogger. I don’t get paid to do it, and no one else really seems to care that I’m one of the top 25ish marathoners in the United States right now. At this point it’s just what I do to get my mind off work.

As has been said before, the term Hobbyjogger is a term used by people who visit this site.

Guys in the OTQ range (or below) are pretty talented and dedicated athletes . Are they Kipchoge? No. Are they serious threats to make a National Team? Not likely. Should they be shown respect? Of course.

Anyway 2:15+ is definitely hobbyjogger. Maybe at the elite end of hobbyjogging but hobbyjogging none the less.

only on Letsrun.com can runners who cannot come remotely close to a 2:15+ marathon let alone a 2:50+ marathon call runners who can run 2:15+ marathoners hobbyjoggers.

Hobby runners? I don't think I'd apply the term jogger to any one running under 3hrs for the marathon.

Def, a sub-pro level event with good conditions and downhill course. Any man running over 2:09 in those conditions isn't really elite (or just blew up after going out at 62 for the first half).

No, it’s a race that does the right thing (unlike the RockNRoll Series) by being geared towards the serious marathoners and those either chasing a BQ or the Olympic Trials Standard

I wish we had more CIM and Grandmas marathon type races throughout the USA.

The worst is the rockNRoll series. They are more interested in having you spend tourist dollars on hotels and tourist attractions during the “race” weekend than actually chasing a time goal. I guess they feel that Chasing a time goal is for serious runners. Chasing a time goal is no fun - that’s for the real runners, the racers.

I always thought it was the NCAA xc championships. Can't imagine any of them getting paid to run.

Having run low 2:12 in the 80’s at both Chicago and Fukuoka, the 2:13-2:15 guys at CIM should prepare themselves to run 2:16-2:21 at the Atlanta trials.
