Cragg's race was before the March 7 start of the qualifying period, was it not?

Are any of these runners "elite". Even though Rupp is only ranked 27th this year on the world ranking, I still consider him to be somewhat elite in the marathon. But Ward is ranked 296th. That can't be elite.

I know they are not record eligible, but are CIM times not eligible for international team selection?

Man, that men's list is depressing.

The Grandmas (Duluth) performances don’t count as it is a one direction course.

Is NY okay? I thought that the distance from start to finish was too great.

Too much confusion here. Allow me to set the record straight in regards to the technical requirements for the course:

First, terminology-

Drop- the overall net drop from the start to finish. This is in meters/kilometer (m/km)

Separation - the straight line distance from the start to finish.

1. World Records

Drop - can not exceed 1 m/km

Separation - can not exceed 50% of the total distance. For example, for the marathon that distance can not exceed 13.109 miles. The NYC Marathon's separation is approximately 47% (12.3 miles)

2. Qualifying for the World Championships by the time standard

Drop - can not exceed 1 m/km

Separation - any separation is accepted.

Athletes will also be able to qualify by finishing in the top ten of any IAAF Gold Label Marathon regardless of the time or course configuration

3. Tokyo Olympics

The qualifying standards are still being tweaked but regardless the course technical requirements will be the same as for the World Championships

Drop - can not exceed 1 m/km

Separation - any accepted

4. Olympic Trials Marathon

Drop - not to exceed 3.25 m/km

Separation - any accepted

5. Proposed IAAF Ranking System (work in progress)

Drop - any drop will be accepted BUT there will be a penalty for each m/km in excess of the 1 m/km

Separation - any accepted.

Does this mean they can raise the women’s pedestrian OTQ mark so there aren’t 500 women in Atlanta (or 2024 Trials)?

Given what you stated above- CIM drops 2.21m/km . Even though it's IAAF certified by an IAAF measurer, are you saying it can't be used for qualifying for the World Championship?

From the IAAF website:

Marathons

 Performances for qualifying purposes may only be achieved on a course

measured by an IAAF/AIMS Grade “A” or “B” International Road Race

Course Measurer with the measurement certificate established no more

than 5 years before the date of the race.

 The overall decrease in elevation between the start and the finish shall

not exceed 1:1000, i.e. 1m per km.

David is the expert. ;) Given what he stated, separation only matters for record purposes. The qualifying procedures for the World Team were released yesterday. Grandma's is eligible for qualifying for the World Team (0.9m/km drop), while CIM is not (2.21m/km drop).

Potential US entrants should have been contacted this week - any news out there?

Is this true? I thought it was top ten of a World Marathon Major and top 5 at an IAAF Gold Label Marathon regardless of the time or course configuration.

Your list is only looking at 2018, the top few don't change but if you add in 2019 the top 10 completely changes. There was a thread on this yesterday, it'll probably be Elkanah Kibet, Shad Biwott, and Epperson (who you don't have in your list because it's not the full list)
