Before or after Italian doctors?
The 400m might be your only accurate assumption. I’d say 5:15 / 19:20 is closer to average for an american.

Correct. Why does everyone think the average HSer is so fast? I was a little slower than the OP’s “average” times and I was the best on my team. Yeah, I wasn’t fast by any means, but that’s still a pretty lofty standard for “average.”
Considering they are 21 in their final year, considerably faster.
Well me mate Kipchoge was 35 in hs so yea never know how old those bastards are.

For an American hser, your times are still optimistic.
Most of them have the same body type, so average would be much faster than for the US.
Comparable to American high schoolers.
The "elite" teenagers from Kenya are in their 20s and "enhanced" in certain ways.
There has never been a legit Kenyan 18-year-old as fast or talented as Ingebrigtsen, Webb, or Ritz.

Half of the male teams struggle to break 21 and half of the female teams struggle to break 25.
OP: Where the hell are you getting these 17:xx averages from? Many fully trained college runners and adults can’t even go that fast.

what the hell are you talking about most children in high school cant get within 10 minutes of the 5k time even in the xc teams most dont break 17:30
Depends on the ethnicity. Kenyans from the Maasi tribe would be faster 800 and below. Kenyans from the kalenjin tribe are much faster 1500m and up. Than there is a bunch of untouched talent in Kenya. Since, kalenjin runners and officials (who are mostly in charged in Kenya as far as running goes) discriminate against non-kalenjin runners. For example, how many more Joseph Ebuya are out there? Joseph Ebuya who is from the Turkana tribe.
I thought we were talking about the average highschool boy who RUNS and TRAINS xc and takes it fairly srs. If we are talking about an overall average of ALL pupils forget about it, instant DNF. If everyone was FORCED to finish it still wouldn’t be under 30:00.

Don`t say things that you don`t know for sure. I coached an excellent Masai long distance runner.

In general, Maasi are taller and more musclar making them better at 800m and below. I know not all, but on average.

You guys are retarded, I'm talking about average high schooler that runs XC/track/varsity. That would be the only fair comparison to make against Kenyans.

Yes and so are we. The avg high school who runs varsity does not run 17:30.
30 plus years ago I ran on a decent high school team and every single senior guy could run 18:00 or better.
I don't think any of the team was over 20 minutes.
You were on a good team, fair enough. The average on my team is about 20 minutes but perhaps just under. Our fastest guy is sub 18, our slowest is just under 22 I think.

Having a 21:5x as your slowest guy is good, but 17:5x as your fastest guy is basura
