The results at this site list the total time and average time for each team (scorers), and also the "spread."
I thought this would be the time from 1st runner to the 5th, but it doesn't seem to be. As an example, in the women's race Colorado has a "spread" of 40.6, but the time from their 1st to 5th runner is clearly shown as 38.4.
What is the spread??

That is the gap from 1st to 24th!
Colorado's scoring order is listed as 1-8-14-20-22(26)(63)...
Oh, now I see.
Colorado's first five finishers were 1-8-15-22-24, but the 24th-placer was actually the 22nd scoring runner due to two non-scorers ahead of her. (Why do they even have non-scoring runners in a team championship??)

Your team didn't qualify. You fail. Move on.
What next, a slam dunk contest in the NCAA basketball tournament, so that people whose teams don't make it can still be All-American?? No, of course not.
They can be selected for this basically meaningless "participation-plus" title in other ways. Leave the RACE for teams that are RACING, not members of failed teams.
