The Nike Outdoor National produced some incredible performances led by the incredible Lindsey Ferguson!

Nice, but let's not get carried away. This event is NOT run that often and will be run even less as the full 3000-meter steeple for women gets more popular. And she's 35 seconds behind the leader in a race that is just one lap longer than a mile. Put this in the proper perspective.

While its not a fixture on the GP Circuit the 2000m steeple for woman was run more this FAR IN THE SEASON than all of 2004. Its not importantly how far a junior in high school is behind the World Record Holder as 2nd place on the list is over 12 seconds behind Dorcus (who is one of the best all-time). So many posters on this board try to hard to belittle others posts and they themselves don't have a clue.

Put in proper perspective Lindsey Ferguson a junior in high school just made the top 15 World List in the steeple (an event that is being run more by elite athletes in 2005). MANY OF THE ATHLETES ON THE 2000m Steeple List are sub 9:50 3000m steeplers and a FEW sub 9:30. While it doesn't imply Lindsey is capable of such performances over the 3000m race it does bode that she ran an OUTSTANDING time and placed on the World List to accompany some of the best in the event!

Those are outstanding performances.

It's really a shame though, that organizers continue to discriminate against women by shortening the length of their event.

The fact is this girl ran 35 seconds slower than the world leader for a race one lap longer than a mile. If a high school girl in a flat 2000 ran just 20 seconds slower than the world leader, you wouldn't think anything of it.

Regina Jacobs the Greatest American female distance runner EVER could have beaten the WR in the Steeple if she really tried.

weary, I don't know about Vipam or anyone else but if a high school girl ran within 20 seconds of the flat 2000m world record that would be incredible news. The world record held by Sonia O'Sullivan 5:25.36 and a high school girl withing 20 seconds of that would be 5:45.35 almost placing her in the top 10 U.S. all-time right behind Suzy Favor's 5:42.8.

Lindsey's 2000m Steeplechase performance is really AMAZING regardless of this meaningless discussion about your 2000m theory. Can you run a 2000m steeple today and have the 15th fastest time in the world?

Remember it's the juniors record, not the overall world record (then again, is there a non-juniors record for the 2K steeple?)

A true champion - dedicated, athletic, humble and loyal. If she ran in the women's 3000 steeple at the Nationals she proabbaly would win.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Lindsey could win USATF in fact I don't think she would place top 3. The kid could definitely run close to 10 flat for the 3000m steeplechase and that bodes well for her and teammate for 2006 World Juniors! A time of 9:47 won the girls 3000m steeplechase at World Juniors and I think Lindsey could be in that shape within a year if she stays healthy.

This looks more like a state championship race with almost every participant being from New York. If every state in the country ran it seriously, odds are good that the record would be better than 6:39.60

so then why isn't she running the steeple at nationals?

Being top 20 in the 2000m Women's SC race is alot closer to being top 20 in the 9,875m race than being top 20 in the 5,000m race.

lindsey is great and all but i think her flat 3k pr is only 9:52 maybe so going 10:00 in the steeple may be a bit of a stretch

briana shook has run 9:29 steeple so im doubting lindsey would be beating her but still she's great

The fact that the steeple participants were many from New York doesn't discredit the fact that Lindsey performance is amazing and NO high schooler has run faster (its 15th in the world list in 2005). Women all over the world are running the 2000m steeple and MAJORITY of them haven't run faster so I don't any other US high schooler could have so far.

When an athlete is displaying new fitness his/her old pb aren't as important, I don't know what Lindsey 3000m pb is but its evident that she's faster and stronger. I agree Lindsey may not be challenging Briana Shook this year. Lindsey is no doubt a talented young steepler and more talented and amazing than some posters are giving her credit and her 2000m HSR is equally amazing.

but heres the real question. is she hot?
